The day that we are deciding to go there is that we never knew that there is a typhoon coming but my parents decides to go because our relatives is waiting for us in the port of Batangas. I felt worried that day because I will never knew if what will go to happen to us so that I pray to God to guide us in our trip. Vans Camannong is a 28-year old runner. Married to Anne, Vans is actually not a professional runner but more like a running enthusiast.

So how did you get into running?

Vans said that it all started when he and Anne decided to get married June 12 last year. In preparation for this big event, Vans thought he didn’t look fit and good. Since then he started running, and never thought it could be an addiction… for a good thought.

It was the Green Miles Run, which was organized by UST alumni, that Vans first attended last March 2010. Although he was just starting, It is quite a shock to know that he started at 10K!

What’s more interesting about it is that after the 10K run, Vans pursued running as a sport by jumping to a more challenging 42K run at Milo Marathon!

What other runs did you join recently?

His recent runs were Rizal Day 32k organized by Baldrunner, QCIM 42k, and Dirt Weekend Duathlon.

Any tips for runners out there?

Vans answered, “You can run at almost any distance, just do breeze walk pag hindi na kaya. More hydration, and your determination to finish the race, will keep you going.”

And what about your time?

“Don’t overdo it by beating your time huge every now and then,” he suggested. “My target is to finish my race in a lower run time than my previous running event, even if the difference is not quite big. And that at least it’s not after cutoff”
